Bail Granted to M.K Faizy in Enforcement Directorate Case: Social Democratic Party of India Chief Was Arrested During Waqf Protest Movement, Release Path Cleared

The Delhi High Court on Monday granted bail to M.K. Faizy, National President of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), in a money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court allowed the bail plea, clarifying that the grant of bail does not amount to an acquittal and that the trial will continue before the designated court.

The ED had arrested Faizy in March 2025 under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The agency alleged that certain financial transactions were found to be suspicious and are currently under investigation. During the proceedings, the ED argued that the accused’s position and influence could potentially affect the probe. A lower court had earlier rejected his bail application.

Notably, Faizy was re-elected as the National President of SDPI in January 2026. His arrest had taken place at a time when the party was leading a nationwide protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill.

Following the High Court’s order, party leaders and supporters described the decision as a relief. Legal experts, however, noted that the final outcome will depend on the trial. The next date of hearing is expected to be scheduled soon.
