SDPI announces youth wing ‘Young Democrats’, aims to mobilise youth across the country

During the sixth National Representatives’ Conference of the Social Democratic Party of India, a new chapter was added to youth politics as the party officially announced the formation of its youth wing, Young Democrats.

On this occasion, the National Working President of the party, Mohammed Shafi, announced the first National Organising Committee of Young Democrats. Advocate Renu Devi Singh was appointed as the Convener, while the Joint Conveners include K A Mohammed Shameer (Kerala), Tahir Shaikh (Andhra Pradesh), Syed Aleem Ilahi (Karnataka), Jayaraj Jayan (Kerala) and Ali Akbar Siddiqui (West Bengal).

Members of the National Committee include Manpreet Kaur (Uttar Pradesh), Madiha Raza (Karnataka), Roni Shaikh (Jharkhand), Fathima Arshana (Kerala), Abida Rashid (Kerala), Mohammed Ibrahim (West Bengal), Sameena Kausar (Karnataka), Advocate Abdulla Hasan Faizi (Tamil Nadu), Mustaqim Mollah (West Bengal), Amina Ismat (Kerala), S Haneef Khan (Tamil Nadu), Mohammed Danish (New Delhi), Mudassir (West Bengal) and Advocate Adil Hussain (Kerala).

Addressing the conference, Mohammed Shafi said that Young Democrats has been formed with the objective of making the country’s youth politically aware and active on the basis of social democracy and constitutional values. He said the youth organisation would promote a political vision rooted in social justice, secularism, democracy, minority rights and labour rights.

He further stated that Young Democrats would unite young people around key issues such as education, employment, social inequality, environmental protection and understanding of the Constitution, and prepare them as a decisive force in shaping the country’s political future. Playing an active role in campus politics and social movements, providing a constructive and democratic platform for youth voices and protests, and standing firmly against unconstitutional and anti-democratic tendencies will be among the organisation’s key priorities.

The party also clarified that Young Democrats will function under an integrated national organisational structure and will soon be expanded to state, district and local units. A detailed organisational framework and action plan will be made public in the coming period.

The conference was also attended by the party’s National General Secretary (Administration) Mohammed Ashraf Ankajal and National General Secretary (Organisation) Riyaz Farangipete.
