The new year in Bihar’s political landscape has begun with a buzz over the entry of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, into active politics. JD(U) MP from Nalanda, Kaushalendra Kumar, has openly stated that Nishant should be entrusted with responsibilities to strengthen and advance the party.
Speaking to the media, MP Kaushalendra Kumar said, “The work Nitish Kumar has done over the past 20 years is the party’s capital. If Nishant does not enter politics, the party could weaken. The public wants Nishant to step forward and lead the party.”
He added that Nishant is young, educated, and exemplary in conduct, and would prove beneficial to the party in any role. However, he clarified that Nishant should not be made Chief Minister at this stage, though the party’s leadership should rest in his hands.
Support for Nishant has already been visible in Patna and Nalanda, where posters and banners read, “Nishant Kumar will shape the future of the next generation.” This indicates that both party workers and the general public are backing his political entry.
Analysts say this is no longer just a family or internal party matter but has become a significant issue concerning youth leadership and the party’s organizational future. The discussion has gained more relevance following NDA’s impressive victory in the 2025 Assembly elections.
