SDPI’s Major Political Surge in Kerala, Wins 102 Seats on Its Own

In the local body elections held in Kerala, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has delivered a notable performance, creating a stir in political circles. Contesting the polls independently without any alliance, the party secured a total of 102 seats, which it has described as a testament to its strong grassroots base and cadre-driven politics.

According to the election results, SDPI won 91 seats in Gram Panchayats, while its candidates emerged victorious on 8 seats in municipalities, 2 in municipal corporations, and 1 in a block division. These results underline the party’s growing presence across both rural and urban areas of the state.

The party leadership attributed the success to an issue-based campaign focused on local development, social justice, and accountable governance. SDPI leaders said that despite limited resources, the party relied on door-to-door outreach and a clear stand on local issues, which resonated positively with voters.

Political analysts believe that this performance could open new avenues for SDPI in Kerala’s local politics. In particular, the significant success at the panchayat level is expected to help the party expand its organisation and advance policy-oriented politics in the coming elections.

Meanwhile, SDPI has urged its newly elected representatives to prioritise transparent governance, public hearings, and development works in local bodies. The party said that living up to the trust reposed by the people would be its foremost responsibility.
