During a meeting with Priyanka Gandhi, Tauqeer Alam said “Congress must stand firmly on the issues concerning the public.”

Congress National Secretary and Mahagathbandhan candidate from Barari constituency, Tauqeer Alam, met Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in New Delhi on Tuesday. During the meeting, the two leaders held an in-depth discussion on the results of the Bihar Assembly elections, the electoral process, and the current political situation in the state.

After the meeting, Tauqeer Alam said that he briefed Priyanka Gandhi about alleged irregularities during the Bihar elections, administrative interference, and the role of the Election Commission. He alleged that the BJP-led NDA government undermined democratic values to influence the election outcome.

According to Tauqeer Alam, Priyanka Gandhi expressed concern over the election results and said “These were not the results we expected. The Congress now needs to stand firmly and consistently with the real issues of the people.”

Alam also raised key regional concerns, particularly those affecting the Seemanchal region. He informed Priyanka Gandhi about ongoing issues such as river erosion, displacement, unemployment, migration, and the poor state of education and healthcare facilities in Katihar and surrounding areas.

He further alleged that during the election campaign, women voters were misguided through payments of ₹10,000 deposited in their bank accounts, which, according to him, distorted the democratic environment and influenced voter behaviour.

During the discussion, Tauqeer Alam also highlighted the urgent need for a degree college, improved medical infrastructure, employment opportunities, and sustainable development programmes in Seemanchal.

After the meeting, he said “The fight for the development of Barari, Pranpur, Katihar and the entire Seemanchal region will continue. The struggle for people’s rights and real development issues will not stop.”
