India’s Muslim Leadership to Gather in New Delhi on July 24 Under IMCR Banner; National Issues and Common Strategy to Top Agenda

A significant conference of India’s leading Muslim religious, social, and political leadership is scheduled to be held in the national capital on July 24, coinciding with the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament. The conference, proposed under the banner of Indian Muslims for Civil Rights (IMCR), is expected to deliberate on the prevailing national situation, constitutional rights, social justice, education, political representation, and several other issues of public importance.

As part of the preparations, the organising committee met on Friday at Nizamuddin in New Delhi under the chairmanship of Mohammad Adeeb, President of IMCR and former Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha). The meeting reviewed the proposed agenda, format, participation, and overall strategy for the conference.

Among those present at the preparatory meeting were former Union Minister and President of the India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC) Salman Khurshid, Samajwadi Party MP Mohibbullah Nadvi, former MP Danish Ali, senior journalist and former MP Shahid Siddiqui, Atika Sajid, National Secretary of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), and Dr. Nizamuddin Khan, National Executive Member of SDPI and its Uttar Pradesh President, along with representatives of several Muslim social organisations.

According to the organisers, invitations have been extended to prominent Muslim religious and community leaders, including Maulana Arshad Madani, President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind; Maulana Mahmood Madani, the organisation’s General Secretary; Engineer Syed Sadatullah Husaini, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind; renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Sajjad Nomani; Maulana Obaidullah Khan Azmi, President of the Indian Muslim Public Affairs Committee (IMPAC); Sarwar Chishti, Sajjada Nashin of the Ajmer Sharif Dargah; and representatives of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat, the All India Milli Council, and several other national Muslim organisations.

The organisers also expect the participation of Asaduddin Owaisi, AIMIM President and Member of Parliament; Congress MPs Imran Pratapgarhi and Imran Masood; Samajwadi Party MP Iqra Hasan; along with Muslim MPs, MLAs, social activists, academics, human rights defenders, and several secular and progressive non-Muslim public figures.

Sources indicate that the conference is likely to deliberate on a range of issues concerning the country’s current social and political landscape. These may include the protection of constitutional rights, social justice, education, political participation, matters relating to Waqf, the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), bulldozer actions, and other contemporary public issues. However, the organisers have stated that the final agenda is expected to be formally unveiled on the day of the conference.

Under the leadership of former MP Mohammad Adeeb, IMCR has been actively promoting dialogue on civil rights, democratic values, and constitutional issues for several years. According to the organisers, the objective of the conference is not to create a platform for any single organisation or political party, but to strengthen dialogue among diverse religious, social, and political streams and develop a broader consensus on issues affecting the community and the nation.

Political observers believe that, being held during Parliament’s Monsoon Session, the conference could carry significant political and social implications at the national level. The resolutions adopted and the future course of action emerging from the meeting are expected to draw close attention from political parties, civil society groups, and policy observers across the country.
