Suspicious Death of Minor in Nawada Police Custody: SHO and 4 Officers Suspended, NHRC Investigates

In a major development following the suspicious death of a minor boy in police custody on November 26 in the Kashi Chak police station area of Nawada district, the administration has taken strict action. Nawada SP Abhinav Dhiman has suspended four police personnel, including Station House Officer Akshay Kumar Gupta.

Following a preliminary investigation by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Pakribarwan, the SHO Akshay Kumar Gupta, Assistant SHO Laveshwar Kumar, constable Kapildev Paswan, and Home Guard Hare Ram Kumar were found prima facie responsible and subsequently suspended.

The case is reportedly linked to a love affair. The mother of a minor girl had filed a complaint at the police station stating that her daughter had not returned home by November 25. Locals claimed to have seen the girl with a minor boy and two of his friends. Acting on this, the police apprehended all the individuals on November 26, and the minor boy was brought to the police station around 8:30 PM.

The minor, who was kept under the supervision of constable Kapildev Paswan, was found dead in police custody the next morning at around 7:15 AM on November 27. When he was taken to the Primary Health Centre in Kashi Chak, doctors declared him dead.

The boy’s family and local residents accused the police of torture, staging protests at the hospital. Residents seized two police vehicles and created a commotion.

DSP Rakesh Kumar Bhaskar stated that the minor had been arrested in connection with a love affair case. He assured that a fair investigation would be conducted and action taken against those found guilty. He also confirmed that CCTV footage from the police station would be examined and further action would follow based on the post-mortem report.

The crime scene was secured, and an FSL team collected evidence. In line with the directives of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the Executive Magistrate prepared a death review report, and post-mortem proceedings were conducted before the medical board with video recording. Judicial inquiry under NHRC procedures is also underway.
