Suspicious Death of Woman Constable in Bettiah: Pregnant Wife Allegedly Strangled to Death, Husband Arrested

A heart-wrenching incident has come to light from West Champaran district of Bihar, where a 27-year-old female police constable posted in the Patna Police Force was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her in-laws’ house. Family members have alleged it to be a planned murder and have made serious accusations against the in-laws. The deceased was four months pregnant.

The incident took place in Supauli village under Sahodra police station area, where the body of the deceased, Sankeshi Kumari, was found at her in-laws’ residence. Initial investigation suggests the possibility of death by strangulation, although police have stated that the exact cause will be confirmed only after the postmortem report.

Maternal family’s allegation: Murder for dowry

The family of the deceased claims that Sankeshi Kumari was married in 2025 in a love marriage, which had the consent of both families. However, after marriage, she was allegedly subjected to harassment over dowry demands.

The deceased’s brother, Dinesh Kumar, alleged that the in-laws were repeatedly demanding a car, and she was physically assaulted when the demand was not met. He further said that after the incident, several members of the in-laws’ family fled the house, while the husband was present at the spot.

Questions raised just a day after marriage

According to the family, Sankeshi Kumari had come to her parental home on April 21 to attend her sister’s wedding. The very next day, her husband took her back to her in-laws’ house, and the same evening news of her death arrived, leaving the family devastated.

The family alleges that an attempt was made to portray the murder as suicide, but clear marks of strangulation were found on the body.

Police action: Husband arrested, investigation underway

After receiving information, Sahodra police reached the spot, took custody of the body, and sent it to GMCH Bettiah for postmortem. After the procedure, the body was handed over to the family.

Police have taken swift action and detained the deceased’s husband, Sujit Kumar, for questioning. Other members of the in-laws’ family are reportedly absconding, and raids are being conducted to arrest them.

Sahodra police station in-charge Rituraj Jaiswal stated that an FIR has been registered and all aspects of the case are under investigation. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem report.

Outrage over death of pregnant woman constable

The incident has shocked not only the family but also local residents. The suspicious death of a woman police officer, who herself was responsible for public safety, has raised several serious questions.

At present, police are investigating the case thoroughly and efforts to arrest the absconding accused have been intensified.
