Karnataka: School Teacher throws hot water at 8-year-old child causing 40 percent burns

Patna(CNA Media/Insaaf Times) A horrifying case has come to light from a rural school in Karnataka’s Raichuru, where a teacher punished an 8-year-old child for defecating in his pants by throwing hot water on him.

This case is of Sriganmatheshwar Senior Primary School, Raichuru. The name of the victim is being told as Akhil, who was studying in the second standard. Pictures of him in the hospital are doing rounds on social media. Chanda Reddy, a resident of the same village has alleged that the school teacher got angry when the child defecated in his pants and threw hot water on the child, causing 40 percent burns on his body. In fact, on September 6, Chanda Reddy informed the Childline helpline about the matter. After this the department took cognisance in this matter and constituted an inquiry committee. Since the incident, the teacher is said to be absent from school. But, the boy’s parents were apparently threatened by some people in power. After acting on Chanda Reddy’s complaint, the inquiry committee submitted its report to the police and asked for further action. The police have registered a case against Huligeppa and are investigating. District Education Officer Chetan Kumar said “we do not have much information about this incident yet. On the basis of the information given by the investigation team, a case has been registered by the department in Muski police station and strict legal action should be taken against whoever is guilty in this case, whether it is the school staff or anyone else. This is our appeal to the police.”Huligeppa, the teacher in the incident, has a criminal record. He was apprehended by police in 2015 under the excuse of possessing sharp weapons and attempting to assassinate former MLA Manappa D. Vajjal of the Lingasaguru constituency. He had gone around the MLA’s residence dressed as a saint and wearing saffron clothing. Security had alerted the police after becoming suspicious of his movements. Sharp objects were discovered in his bag, and MLA Vajjal has filed a complaint against him as a result. At that time, a murder attempt case was filed against him at the Lingasaguru police station.
