Prashant Kishor Holds Closed-Door Meeting with Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, Speculation Grows Over Jan Suraj’s Merger with Congress

After failing to secure a single seat in the Bihar Assembly elections, Jan Suraj Party founder and election strategist Prashant Kishor has met Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. Following this meeting, political circles are abuzz with speculation about Prashant Kishor joining the Congress and the possible merger of his party, Jan Suraj, with the Congress.

According to sources, Rahul Gandhi and Prashant Kishor held nearly a one-and-a-half-hour-long discussion on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 10 Janpath in New Delhi. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi was also present during the meeting. While the interaction is being described as informal, its political implications are being seen as highly significant.

Sources say that preliminary discussions were held on the framework and process through which Jan Suraj could potentially merge with the Congress. Although there has been no confirmation of any formal decision, the deliberations between the two sides are being viewed as politically important.

Apart from the recent Bihar elections, the meeting also saw detailed discussions on the current political situation in Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. In particular, questions were raised over the role of the Election Commission in the Bihar polls, controversies related to SIR, and the transparency of the electoral process. Issues such as alleged vote theft, free and fair elections, and the credibility of democratic institutions were also discussed.

Sources further indicate that strategic-level talks were held regarding the Assembly elections scheduled in 2027 in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Punjab. The meeting is being considered crucial in terms of the Congress party’s future electoral strategy and organizational expansion.

It is noteworthy that relations between Prashant Kishor and the Congress have witnessed several ups and downs over the past few years. In 2021, Kishor had presented a comprehensive proposal to revive and strengthen the Congress across the country. In 2022, he also made a presentation before the party’s top leadership, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, at Sonia Gandhi’s residence at 10 Janpath.

However, later that year, the Congress had invited Prashant Kishor to join a team formed for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, an offer he declined. Subsequently, he launched his own political party, Jan Suraj, marking a new foray into Bihar’s politics, but the recent election results have raised questions over his political strategy.

Now, this meeting with Rahul Gandhi has once again fueled discussions about a possible partnership between the Congress and Prashant Kishor. In the coming days, it will become clearer whether this interaction remains limited to deliberations or paves the way for a major political development in Indian politics.
