Student Organizations Outraged Over Cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 Exam, SIO Says “NTA and Central Government’s Examination System Completely Unreliable”

The paper leak controversy surrounding the country’s largest medical entrance examination, NEET-UG 2026, and the subsequent decision to cancel the exam have once again raised serious questions over the credibility of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Central Government’s examination system. Reacting sharply to the developments, SIO of India stated that this is not merely an instance of irregularity in a single examination, but a reflection of a deep institutional crisis within the country’s centralized examination framework.

In its statement, the student organization said that the cancellation of an examination attempted by more than 2.2 million students clearly demonstrates the failure of the government and the NTA to ensure fairness and security in the country’s most important competitive examinations. Following serious allegations of a paper leak and the initiation of a CBI investigation, a sense of confusion, anxiety, and anger has spread among students and parents alike.

SIO alleged that after the NEET-UG 2024 controversy, the Central Government had claimed to introduce stringent anti-paper leak laws and stricter monitoring mechanisms. However, despite those assurances, the credibility of the examination system appears to be collapsing once again. According to the organization, this situation is a grave injustice to millions of poor and middle-class students who pursue the dream of medical education after years of hard work, financial burden, mental stress, and countless sacrifices.

The organization further stated that the repeated cancellation and re-conduct of examinations are severely affecting students’ mental well-being. Continuous examination scandals have created insecurity, stress, and deep uncertainty about the future among the youth, while responsible institutions appear to be evading accountability.

In its statement, SIO also argued that if the centralized examination system continues to fail repeatedly despite massive resources, technological infrastructure, and legal mechanisms, then there is an urgent need for a serious national debate on decentralizing the examination process and restructuring the NTA. The organization also demanded the immediate resignation of the Union Education Minister on “moral grounds.”

SIO demanded a transparent and time-bound investigation into the entire matter, strict punishment for all those involved in the paper leak network, and accountability from both the NTA and the Central Government. The organization asserted that it stands firmly with the millions of students whose trust and future have once again been shaken by failures in the examination system.

The NEET-UG 2026 controversy has once again intensified the debate over whether the country’s current examination system is capable of safeguarding students’ futures, or whether the time has come for comprehensive structural reforms.
