Patna (Nazli Siddique/Insaaf Times) ”Don’t miss the chance, if you miss it then no one will come to help”In this era, journalists have freedom of speech. Journalists can publish their thoughts and views also, yet there is a lack of true journalism but at the time, when writing against the government was a crime, then a journalist has emerged and his name is Maulvi Muhammad Baqar. He sacrificed his life for justice and became the first Martyr Journalist in the nation. Muhammad Baqar was the Editor of Delhi Urdu Akhbar, thought to be Delhi’s first Urdu newspaper, He was instrumental in bringing the nation together in opposition to British atrocities.Baqar was born in 1780 in Delhi. His father gave him his early education. He moved to Delhi College in 1825 to pursue higher education and was hired as a teacher in the same college where he worked for six years. He began publishing weekly urdu newspaper in 1845 title “Delhi Urdu Akhbar” Baqar changed the name of his newspaper Akhbar-uz Zafar on July 12, 1857, meant to be a tribute to Bahadur Shah,Maulvi Muhammad Baqar made full use of the newspaper to generate opinion against British rule during the Indian rebellion of 1857.The Mujahideen were able to get to Delhi by May 11, 1857 because to the flame of freedom that was lit in Meerut on May 10. This was followed by a string of significant events that caused the British people’s foundation to shake. In response to this appeal for liberation, Maulvi Muhammad Baqir was engaged practising jihad with his pen. A thorough summary of the Mujahideen’s advance was published in Delhi Urdu Akhbar’s report of May 17, 1857.
