Citing Karabakh and Libya as examples, a warning of possible military action against Israel: Strong statement by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, counterattack by Benjamin Netanyahu, Turkey–Israel relations gripped by deep tensions.

Tensions in the Middle East have entered a new and highly dangerous phase, with diplomatic relations between Turkey and Israel rapidly deteriorating. In recent days, a strong statement by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has further escalated the situation, drawing sharp and bitter reactions from Israeli leadership.

According to The Jerusalem Post, while addressing an international political conference in Istanbul, Erdoğan accused Israel of serious human rights violations in Palestine and Lebanon. He described Israeli actions as “barbaric,” stating that innocent civilians—especially women and children—are being targeted and that international laws are being ignored.

In his speech, he made a significant and controversial remark, saying that Turkey must become strong enough to stop Israel, and if necessary, it could take military action as it has done in the past. As reported by The Jerusalem Post, he referred to Turkey’s previous interventions in Nagorno-Karabakh and Libya, suggesting that similar steps could be taken against Israel.

The statement was strongly criticized in Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded by saying that Israel would continue its operations against Iran and its allies, while indirectly accusing Erdoğan of destabilizing the region.

In the same context, Israeli minister Amichai Eliyahu also issued a harsh response. According to The Jerusalem Post, he described Erdoğan as an “unrestrained autocrat” and a “leader with imperial ambitions,” even suggesting that Israel should consider severing diplomatic ties with Turkey.

On the other hand, according to Moneycontrol, the war of words between the two countries has intensified, which experts are calling a dangerous diplomatic confrontation. Strong statements at political and defense levels indicate that the situation is no longer limited to disagreements but could evolve into a major regional crisis.

Turkey has also responded firmly. According to Hürriyet Daily News, Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected Netanyahu’s remarks as “false, offensive, and baseless.” The statement added that Turkey has always stood for truth and justice at the international level, and Israel’s reaction reflects its discomfort with the facts that Turkey continues to highlight.

This tension has a broader context. Since the Gaza war, relations between Turkey and Israel have been steadily worsening. Hürriyet Daily News reports that Turkey has already limited or suspended trade ties with Israel, and recently, Turkish courts have filed cases against several Israeli officials, including Netanyahu.

Additionally, ongoing conflicts in Lebanon, Iran, and Gaza have further complicated the regional situation, meaning that any strong statement or action could have far-reaching consequences.

According to experts, although Erdoğan’s statement does not amount to a direct declaration of war, it is being seen as a clear political warning. They believe Turkey is trying to position itself as a strong supporter of the Palestinian people, while Israel views the statement as a threat to its security.

Overall, the escalating tensions between Turkey and Israel are not only affecting bilateral relations but also pose a risk to peace across the Middle East. Experts warn that if this war of words continues, it could turn into an actual confrontation at any time, with global repercussions.
