Alleged Attack on MLA Jyoti Devi in Gaya: Convoy Stopped, Assault and Casteist Abuse Alleged; Santosh Suman Targets Tejashwi Yadav, Says “Control Your Supporters”, Political Tensions Rise in Bihar

Political tensions have once again escalated in Bihar following an alleged attack on Barachatti MLA Jyoti Devi. The incident has now taken a political turn, with Bihar government minister and HAM (Hindustani Awam Morcha) national president Santosh Suman launching a sharp attack on RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, advising him to “keep his supporters under control.”

The incident is linked to an alleged clash that took place on May 17 in the Mohanpur area of Gaya district, where reports claim that the MLA’s convoy was stopped and she was subjected to assault.

Bihar has changed,” says Santosh Suman

Reacting on social media platform ‘X’, Santosh Suman alleged that RJD supporters could be involved in the attack, calling it part of a “planned conspiracy.”

He further stated that Bihar has changed and that the “era of dominance by a particular caste is over.” He also urged Tejashwi Yadav to restrain his supporters and maintain peace in the state.

What is the full incident?

According to MLA Jyoti Devi, she was on her way to a scheduled programme in a village under Mohanpur block when a vehicle allegedly blocked the road, preventing her convoy from moving forward.

The situation reportedly escalated into a tense confrontation.

Allegations include:

Protest and heated arguments by 15–20 individuals

Alleged physical assault on security personnel

Use of caste-based slurs (as claimed)

Attempted attack on the MLA’s vehicle

Chaos and tension at the spot

Claim of repeated attacks after elections

In her complaint to the police, Jyoti Devi stated that since the 2025 Assembly elections, she and her supporters have been repeatedly targeted. She has named several individuals and demanded strict action.

Police investigation underway

Bodh Gaya SDPO Amit Jaiswal said that police have inspected the site and an FIR is being processed based on the complaint.

He added that the investigation is being carried out from all possible angles and evidence is being collected.

Jitan Ram Manjhi issues warning

Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has also taken a strong stance on the issue, demanding immediate arrest of the accused and action against the concerned police station in-charge.

He warned that if action is not taken within the stipulated time, his party will stage protests and gherao the District Magistrate and SP offices.

Rising political tension in Bihar

The incident has triggered fresh political tension in Bihar. The HAM party is calling it an attack on its MLA and demanding strict action, while allegations against the opposition have further intensified the political dispute.

Analysts believe the issue is no longer a local dispute and could have wider implications for law and order as well as the political atmosphere in the state.

Investigation continues

Police have stated that the investigation is ongoing and further action will be taken only after verification of all facts. No final conclusion has yet been drawn against any party.
