CPI (ML) marks 58th foundation day, resolves to intensify struggle; message of movement echoes in Patna

The Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation (CPI-ML) on Tuesday celebrated its 58th foundation day with enthusiasm through a series of events across Bihar and other parts of the country. The occasion also coincided with the birth anniversary of Vladimir Lenin, the founder of the global proletarian movement, adding further ideological significance to the observance.

At the main ceremony held at the party’s state office in Patna, State Secretary Comrade Kunal hoisted the party flag. The program also included the reading of the Central Committee’s April 22 call, which urged the organisation to intensify grassroots struggles.

The event was attended by senior leaders including Comrade K.D. Yadav, Comrade S.K. Sharma, Comrade Manju Prakash, and Comrade Santlal, along with a large number of activists and supporters. Prominent members of the student and youth wing AISA, including Prasenjit Kumar, Prof. Shobhan Chakraborty, Prof. Satish Kumar, Prakash Kumar, Abhay Pandey, Pal Bihari Lal, Sanjay Yadav, Vinay Kumar, Preeti Patel, Saba Aafreen, and Priya Gupta, were also present.

In his address, State Secretary Comrade Kunal said the present era is marked by global instability and a severe economic crisis, which is directly affecting workers, migrant labourers, and the general public in India. He questioned the central government’s foreign policy, stating that it has led to significant international challenges and economic pressure on the country.

He also raised concerns over rising inflation, fuel and fertilizer shortages, and changes in labour laws. According to him, there is widespread dissatisfaction among the working class against these policies, while the farming community is also preparing to resist proposed trade agreements.

Comrade Kunal further criticized the weakening of welfare schemes such as MGNREGA and changes in the education sector, terming them contrary to social justice. He stressed the need to bring issues of social justice back to the centre of national discourse.

He added that the coming period would be crucial for social movements, as centenary commemorations of the 1927 Mahad Satyagraha and the burning of the Manusmriti, along with the birth anniversary of social reformer Jyotiba Phule, would help inspire public awareness and mobilization.

On the occasion, the party reiterated its call to intensify the struggle to establish India as a truly sovereign, secular, and democratic republic. It also demanded immediate implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act and opposed what it called misleading propaganda on the issue.

The program concluded with a collective resolve by party workers to strengthen the organisation and intensify struggles on people’s issues.

Separate events were also organised in various parts of Patna, including Digha, Ashiana, Govindpur, New Market, and Patna Junction.
