A major opportunity for minority students with free residential facilities, meals, uniforms, books, and modern laboratories: Entrance examination on May 17 under Bihar Government’s residential school scheme; last date to apply is May 1.

The Government of Bihar, through the Minority Welfare Department, is organizing the “Bihar State Minority Residential School Combined Entrance Examination–2026” as a significant educational initiative for students from minority communities. The notification for the academic session 2026–27 has brought a new wave of hope among thousands of students and parents across the state.

This scheme is specially designed for talented yet economically disadvantaged students who aspire to receive quality education but often fall behind due to lack of resources. The state government aims to provide a better academic environment, modern facilities, and a competitive atmosphere so that students from minority communities can establish themselves at the national level.

The application process began on April 1, 2026, and interested students can apply until May 1, 2026. The entrance examination will be held on May 17, and the results will be declared on May 28. Admission of selected students will take place between June 1 and June 6, and the new academic session will commence from June 8, 2026.

Under this scheme, students belonging to notified minority communities of Bihar—Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, and Parsis—are eligible to apply. The maximum age limit is 16 years for admission to Class 9 and 18 years for Class 11, ensuring that students receive quality education at the appropriate stage of their academic journey.

Currently, fully operational minority residential schools are located in Nalanda, Kaimur, Darbhanga, Jamui, and West Champaran districts. Additionally, camp schools have been arranged for students from Siwan, Purnia, Araria, Gaya, and Supaul districts, ensuring that a larger number of students can benefit from the scheme.

One of the most significant features of these schools is the completely free residential facility. Students are provided with hostel accommodation, nutritious meals, uniforms, books, medicines, and regular health check-ups. Alongside academics, emphasis is also placed on overall development through modern laboratories, sports, and co-curricular activities.

Efforts have also been made to maintain a high standard of education. In Class 11, students are offered streams such as Science (PCM/PCB) and Arts, allowing them to choose subjects based on their interests and future goals. This system enables students to pursue careers in engineering, medical fields, civil services, and other professions.

Keeping social inclusion in mind, special reservation provisions have been implemented. Fifty percent of the total seats are reserved for girls, while 75 percent are allocated for students from rural areas. Other reservations will be applied as per the current policies of the state government.

To simplify the application process, both online and offline options are available. Students can apply online through the department’s official website or submit offline applications at the District Minority Welfare Offices. Additionally, helpline facilities are available at divisional offices in Patna, Gaya, Purnia, and Katihar.

Education experts believe that this scheme is not limited to academics alone but also serves as a strong tool for social and economic empowerment. It is expected to reduce dropout rates and provide students from rural and backward areas with a competitive environment.

Overall, this initiative by the Bihar government has emerged as a major opportunity for students from minority communities. It will not only help shape their academic future but also play a crucial role in making them self-reliant and empowered.
