The Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) elections were held on Sunday and concluded without contest, with 24-year-old Harsh Vardhan elected as president. Son of former BCA president Rakesh Tiwari, Harsh Vardhan has created history by becoming the youngest person ever to head the state cricket body. The landmark result has drawn widespread attention not only in Bihar but across the Indian cricketing fraternity.

All office-bearers were elected unopposed. Priya Kumari was chosen as vice-president, Jiaul Arfeen as secretary, Abhishek Nandan as treasurer, and Rohit Kumar as joint secretary. In addition, Rajesh Kumar was made a member of the District Representative Committee, while Gyaneshwar Gautam was inducted into the governing council. The entire electoral process was overseen by election officer and retired IAS officer M. Mudassir, ensuring transparency and impartiality.

The new executive body consists of members aged between 24 and 50, raising hopes for fresh energy and vision within the association.

Soon after assuming charge, Harsh Vardhan underlined that strengthening cricket infrastructure in Bihar would be his top priority. He stressed that until players are provided with proper grounds, training facilities, and modern resources, Bihar cricket will struggle to establish a strong presence on the national stage.

He further announced that more opportunities would be created for talent emerging from rural areas and smaller towns. Plans are underway to organize district-level tournaments, conduct training camps, and expand access to modern coaching facilities “My goal is to keep the organization united and take Bihar cricket to new heights. In the coming years, players from Bihar will make their mark at the national and international levels.”

Challenges, however, remain significant. In recent years, the BCA has faced allegations of corruption and lack of transparency in its selection process. The Patna High Court had even appointed an ombudsman to address complaints against the association. Critics say Harsh Vardhan must overcome these long-standing disputes and win the trust of both players and stakeholders.

Bihar cricket has long struggled to secure a consistent identity at the national level. Experts believe that if the new executive body delivers on its promises, the state could soon see emerging talents who will shine on India’s cricketing stage.
