Mysterious Death of Newlywed in Araria, In-Laws Accused of Dowry Murder

Insaaf Times Desk

A newlywed woman’s mysterious death in Araria district’s Bangama Panchayat has sent shockwaves across the region. The victim’s family has accused her in-laws of killing her over dowry demands. Taking the matter seriously, police have detained the woman’s husband and mother-in-law for questioning.

The deceased has been identified as Sapna Kumari (22), a resident of Radhanagar, Purnea. She was married five months ago to Sonu Kumar of Ward No. 13, Bangama. While the initial days of marriage seemed normal, her in-laws allegedly began pressuring her for dowry soon after.

According to Sapna’s family, the in-laws had been demanding ₹4 lakh in cash and a motorcycle. When the family expressed their inability to meet these demands, they allege that Sapna was assaulted, which ultimately led to her death.

Following the incident, Sapna’s relatives lodged an FIR at the Nagar police station. Police have since taken her husband and mother-in-law into custody and launched an investigation. Sadar SDPO Sushil Kumar said, “The body has been sent for postmortem. Based on the written complaint from the victim’s family, further legal action is underway.”

The tragic incident once again highlights the menace of the dowry system in society. Locals have urged the government and the community to take strong steps to eradicate this social evil and ensure strict punishment for those responsible.
