Patna(CNA Media/Insaaf Times) A Maharashtra court ordered the hospitalization of Rakesh Kumar Wadhawan who has been in Mumbai’s Central Prison over money laundering charges since 2019, stating that proper medical aid is a right of an undertrial prisoner. He was arrested in 2019 during an investigation of the bankrupt realty company’s dealings with the Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank. It was found that he used thousands of unreal accounts to hide loads it made to HDIL, ending up with a loss of at least Rs 4,355 crore. His son, Sarang, was also arrested.According to reports, Wadhawan suffers from serious medical health issues. Earlier in 2022, he had moved Bombay high court to undergo a bypass surgery at the Kokilaben Ambani Hospital. The court had granted this request.“It is made clear that this order is not passed on merits of the matter and is passed looking at the high risk, which the applicant is under, because of his medical conditions,” the high court said while disposing of the petition,Mumbai jails’ treatment of prisoners has been highlighted as with severe neglect and the system itself has many flaws that need fixing.
