Bangalore university Students’ Outrage against Attempt to saffronise BU.

Patna (CNA Media/Insaf Times) The controversy over the construction of a Ganesh temple in Bangalore University does not seem to be resolved. The protest against the construction of the temple has been going on since Wednesday. Students of Bangalore University on Thursday protested against the relocation of the Ganesh temple in the campus.

The students said that despite opposition from the registrar and the vice-chancellor, the Burohit Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) was adamant about shifting the temple within the university premises. The fact is that this Ganesha temple was located in Gnana Bharati Campus of Bangalore University on Mysore Road, because the road is widening, BBMP decided to shift the temple to Bangalore University.Students of the university opposed the BBMP’s decision, saying that according to the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, the university is a place for learning and not for practicing religion. The students also said that the BBMP is trying to “saffronise the university” and were only spending money on the temple itself.A student said that instead of a temple, a library should be built there for students. Students are very clear and saying that please do not divide us into religious lines and we are here to study.Meanwhile, the construction work of the Ganesha temple is going on with the police security, on the other side, the students are thinking of starting a legal battle against the authorities.
