Opposition Show of Strength in Darbhanga: Big Gathering of INDIA Bloc Leaders at CPI(ML) State Conference from May 16 to 18

Bihar politics appears to be entering yet another phase of shifting alliances and intensifying ideological battles. At such a time, CPI(ML) has begun positioning its 12th Bihar State Conference not merely as an organisational event, but as a broader platform for political dialogue and opposition unity. The conference, scheduled to be held in Darbhanga from May 16 to 18, 2026, is expected to witness the participation of several state-level leaders from parties associated with the INDIA bloc during its open session.

The party has formally invited leaders of allied parties to attend the event. Political observers believe the conference is aimed at sending a strong political message amid Bihar’s evolving political situation, the growing influence of the BJP, and the challenges confronting opposition parties.

Addressing the media in Patna on Wednesday, CPI(ML) Bihar State Secretary Kunal said the conference is being organised at a time when both Bihar and the country are passing through a serious political phase. He alleged that after the Assembly elections, the BJP had politically sidelined Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and established complete control over the Bihar government.

Kunal also said the results of the recent Assembly elections in five states have posed fresh challenges before opposition politics. Referring particularly to the BJP’s unexpected victory in West Bengal and the DMK’s defeat in Tamil Nadu, he described the outcomes as indicators of major shifts in national politics. According to him, these developments have compelled opposition parties to rethink both their strategy and unity.

He further alleged that incidents reflecting “bulldozer politics” and attacks on democratic institutions have increased in Bihar, against which popular struggles are continuing. Kunal said Bihar currently stands at a crucial political crossroads, carrying a historic responsibility to defend democracy, the Constitution and people’s rights.

The CPI(ML) leadership maintains that the Darbhanga conference is not only meant for organisational review or future political planning, but also to strengthen the direction of a collective opposition struggle. The party believes that in the present political climate, broader unity among democratic forces has become the need of the hour.

The open session of the conference has already generated significant interest in political circles. If leaders from various INDIA bloc parties share the stage, it is likely to be viewed as a major signal of opposition unity in Bihar. Political analysts are also closely watching the event for indications regarding future anti-BJP strategies and opposition coordination.

The conference comes at a time when political polarisation in Bihar is intensifying and opposition parties are trying to consolidate their support base. In this backdrop, CPI(ML)’s state conference appears set to emerge as more than just a party event, carrying wider political significance.
