Questions Raised Over Bareilly Train Incident: “Maulana Tausif Raza’s Death Was Not an Accident”! SDPI Demands SIT Probe as Family Allegations Deepen Suspicion of Conspiracy

The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Uttar Pradesh, has described the death of Maulana Tausif Raza Mazhari near Bareilly Cantt Railway Station as suspicious and demanded a high-level, impartial investigation into the matter. The party stated that declaring the incident as “just an accident” without a complete probe would amount to injustice.

Maulana Tausif Raza Mazhari, 30, a resident of Kishanganj (Thakurganj), Bihar, was a teacher at a madrasa in Siwan. On the night of April 26–27, he was returning home by train after attending the “Urs-e-Taj-ush-Sharia” event in Bareilly. During the journey, he reportedly fell from a moving train near Bareilly Cantt Railway Station and died.

The family of the deceased has made serious allegations regarding the incident. According to them, shortly before the incident, Maulana Tausif called his wife and informed her that some people on the train were assaulting him while accusing him of being a “thief.” The family also claimed that they witnessed the assault through a video call.

The family has alleged that Maulana Tausif was targeted because of his religious identity — his beard and cap — and was later pushed off the moving train.

However, local police and railway authorities, in their preliminary investigation, have termed the incident an accident. According to officials, due to extreme heat, he may have been sleeping near a window and lost balance, leading to the fatal fall.

SDPI pointed out contradictions between the two versions and said that the truth can only emerge through an investigation by an independent agency or a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The party has demanded preservation of CCTV footage, forensic examination of Call Detail Records (CDR), questioning of passengers and railway staff present in the train, and public release of the postmortem report.

SDPI Uttar Pradesh State General Secretary Mohammad Nadeem said, “The truth must come out, and the guilty must be punished at any cost.” He added that a memorandum regarding the matter has been sent to the Railway Minister.

Copies of the memorandum have also been sent to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), National Commission for Minorities, GRP Uttar Pradesh, and the DRM of Moradabad Division.
