Patliputra Junction will become a modern railway hub, as the Vande Bharat coaching complex and the Amrit Bharat Scheme are set to transform the rail landscape of Patna.

Patliputra Junction in Patna is being developed as a major modern railway hub of Indian Railways. Under the Ministry of Railways’ Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, extensive redevelopment work is underway at the station, while a state-of-the-art coaching complex for Vande Bharat trains is also being rapidly constructed nearby.

According to railway officials, once the project is completed, Patliputra Junction will serve as a strong alternative to the heavily burdened Patna Junction and will give a new direction to the capital’s railway system.

₹283 Crore Vande Bharat Coaching Complex

The Vande Bharat coaching complex being built near Patliputra Junction is a key part of this project. Its initial estimated cost was ₹199.36 crore, which has now been increased to approximately ₹283.16 crore. The complex will include three stabling lines, one pit line, one washing line, two workshop lines, three inspection bay lines, and an administrative building. Railway officials state that this facility will become a major maintenance hub for Vande Bharat and other modern trains.

Plan to Reduce Pressure on Patna Junction

In recent years, passenger congestion at Patna Junction has increased significantly. To address this, Patliputra Junction is being developed as an alternative terminal. Currently, 33 pairs of mail and express trains and 10 pairs of passenger trains operate from the station. It has five platforms and handles more than 21,000 passengers daily.

Comprehensive Development Under Amrit Bharat Scheme

Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, overall redevelopment of Patliputra Junction is being carried out. Special focus is being given to station rebuilding, expansion of passenger amenities, and modernization of security systems. Key developments include a modern station building, improved entry and exit systems, disabled-friendly facilities, expanded platforms and circulating areas, and advanced information systems.

A Strong Hub for Regional Connectivity

Patliputra Junction is emerging as an important rail connectivity hub between North and South Bihar. It strengthens the regional rail network by connecting the Danapur and Sonpur divisions. Railway officials say that the station is set to develop into a major terminal for Patna in the future.

This development marks a significant transformation in Bihar’s railway infrastructure. The ongoing redevelopment under the Vande Bharat coaching complex and Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is considered a major step toward establishing Patna as a modern railway hub.
