The Jan Suraj Party has made serious allegations against the state government regarding Bihar’s financial condition, stating that the state is increasingly “burdened under debt” and that this situation is the result of “policy mismanagement and vote-bank politics.” During a press conference held on Thursday at the party office in Patna, the leaders accused the government of breaking financial discipline and putting the future at risk.
Party spokesperson Vivek Kumar claimed that the Bihar government is preparing to take a fresh loan of around ₹12,000 crore from the Reserve Bank, while the state already has an existing debt of approximately ₹3.70 lakh crore. He further stated that, considering the real situation, the total debt has now reached nearly ₹4 lakh crore.
Vivek Kumar said that the government is spending around ₹40,000 crore annually only on interest payments, meaning “nearly ₹100 crore every day is being spent just on repaying debt.” He alleged that financial balance has been completely disturbed due to populist announcements during elections, such as free electricity, salary hikes, and other welfare promises.
He further stated that the state’s fiscal deficit has reached nearly 12 percent, which is significantly above the safe limit, yet the government is trying to present the situation as normal. According to him, this is directly affecting salary payments of employees, scholarship schemes, and development projects.
During the same press conference, senior party leader Captain Rajeev launched a sharp attack on the government, saying that this situation is not just an administrative failure but “an injustice against the poor, elderly, disabled, and vulnerable sections” who depend on government welfare schemes.
He alleged that the contingency fund has been misused for “electoral promises and political gains,” which has led to a serious financial crisis in the state treasury. He added that delays in payments have not only stalled development work but also affected job creation, leading to rising crime and public dissatisfaction.
The press conference was attended by media state in-charge Obaidur Rahman, Captain Rajeev, Sonali Anand, and several other leaders. The Jan Suraaj Party demanded that the state government release a white paper on the financial situation and ensure transparency regarding the debt scenario.
