A deeply shocking case has emerged from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, which has shaken society. A newly married woman has accused her husband, mother-in-law, and father-in-law of inhumane treatment, dowry harassment, and sexual abuse under the pretext of occult rituals. Based on her complaint, the police have registered an FIR and initiated an investigation.
According to the victim, she married a man named Kautuk Mishra in 2024. Soon after arriving at her in-laws’ house, she began noticing unusual behavior within the family. She alleges that there was an environment of occult practices and so-called religious rituals, which were used as a means to mentally and physically harass her.
As per the complaint, one night after midnight, a ritual involving occult practices was conducted at the house. The victim was asked to participate, and she alleges that she was forced to strip naked as part of the ritual. When she resisted, her husband and father-in-law allegedly forcibly removed her clothes and physically assaulted her.
The woman further alleged that her husband locked her in a room with his father, where she was subjected to inappropriate and abusive behavior. After that, she was allegedly made to sit naked in the ritual along with other family members. These incidents left her severely traumatized.
The victim also stated that ever since the marriage, her in-laws had been continuously demanding dowry. She alleges that she was harassed for additional cash, jewelry, and property, and that her personal belongings (stridhan) were not returned.
Eventually, unable to endure the continuous abuse, the woman returned to her parental home and informed her family about everything. She then filed a complaint with the police.
According to police officials, a case has been registered based on her complaint, and all allegations are being thoroughly investigated. Charges related to dowry harassment, domestic violence, and sexual abuse have been invoked. The police have stated that further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
This case raises serious questions about blind faith, patriarchal mindset, and the safety of women in society. The truth of the matter will become clear only after the police investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
