Fears of a Nuclear Strike on Iran: Global Concern Rises After Allegations by UN Representative Mohammad Safa

Lebanese-origin human rights activist Mohammad Safa has raised serious concerns about the functioning of the United Nations, warning of a potential nuclear strike on Iran. In a recent statement, he announced the suspension of all his responsibilities within the UN system.

Safa described the global situation as “extremely critical,” arguing that the world is failing to properly grasp the magnitude of the threat. He suggested that a possible military confrontation involving Iran could escalate to the use of nuclear weapons. According to him, such an outcome would lead to massive loss of life and property in densely populated cities like Tehran, which he termed a “crime against humanity.”

In his statement, Safa alleged that certain senior officials within the United Nations are operating under the influence of “powerful lobbies” and are avoiding taking clear positions on sensitive international issues. He claimed that ongoing events in the Gaza Strip are not being officially recognized as “genocide,” while the situation in Lebanon is not being acknowledged as “war crimes” or “ethnic cleansing.” He further argued that there is reluctance to declare any potential war against Iran as illegal under international law.

Safa indirectly referred to the United States and Israel, suggesting that certain countries are being shielded from accountability for alleged violations of international law. However, he did not directly accuse any nation of planning a nuclear strike.

In his letter, Safa also made personal allegations, claiming that he and his family have received death threats, suffered financial losses, and faced restrictions on freedom of expression within UN platforms. He asserted that these actions were not part of official UN procedures but were carried out by certain senior officials.

These allegations—especially the warning of a possible nuclear strike—have heightened international concern. If such a scenario were to unfold, it could significantly escalate conflict in the Middle East and have severe implications for global peace and stability. Experts warn that the use of nuclear weapons would not only result in immediate humanitarian catastrophe but also long-term environmental and economic consequences.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation of Safa’s claims regarding a potential nuclear strike or his other allegations. No formal response has been issued by the United Nations or other international agencies.

At present, the issue extends beyond an individual’s claims, raising broader questions about the role, transparency, and credibility of international institutions.
