Pakistani Airstrike on Afghanistan Destroys Kabul Drug Rehabilitation Hospital: Over 400 Civilians Dead, Hundreds Injured; Imarat-e-Islamia Announces Retaliation

A Pakistani military and air force strike allegedly targeted the Omar Addiction Treatment Hospital in Afghanistan’s capital on Monday night, killing at least 400 people and injuring hundreds more. The hospital, a 2,000-bed drug rehabilitation center, was completely destroyed.

Local officials and hospital staff reported that rescue teams are still working to pull people from the rubble and control ongoing fires. Most of the casualties were patients and hospital personnel. Security guards at the hospital said that fighter jets were heard overhead shortly before the bombs struck.

Spokespersons for the Imarat-e-Islamia Afghanistan, Hamidullah Fitrat and Zabihullah Mujahid, condemned the attack. Mujahid tweeted on X (formerly Twitter): “Pakistan has once again violated Afghan airspace and targeted a drug rehabilitation hospital in Kabul. This attack violates international humanitarian norms and all accepted standards. We will not accept such crimes under any circumstances.”

Pakistan rejected the allegations, stating that the strikes were aimed only at military sites and terrorist infrastructure. The Pakistani Ministry of Information called the Afghan statements “provocative and detached from reality.”

This attack is part of ongoing border tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, where recent weeks have seen multiple cross-border airstrikes and ground clashes, resulting in dozens of casualties on both sides.

Experts warn that a lasting solution remains distant, as both nations continue military operations and retaliatory attacks along the border.

Meanwhile, the World Food Programme (WFP) has begun preparations to deliver lifesaving food supplies to over 20,000 displaced families. Local TV channels have broadcast harrowing images of relief operations amid fire and rubble, showing fear and despair gripping the city.

The international community and the United Nations Security Council have called for restraint and immediate dialogue between the two sides. The attack not only threatens the safety of Kabul but also underscores the escalating severity of Afghanistan–Pakistan tensions in the region.
