Gulf War: Iran Launches Major Crackdown, 500 Arrested Over Alleged Espionage for “Enemy States”

Amid escalating military tensions in the Middle East, Iran has launched a major crackdown on an alleged espionage network inside the country, arresting around 500 people. According to Iranian police, the suspects are accused of providing sensitive information to “enemy countries” and maintaining contact with foreign media outlets and agencies.

Iran’s police chief Ahmad Reza Radan said the individuals were detained from various cities and provinces across the country. Officials described the operation as part of intensified security measures in recent days aimed at dismantling espionage networks and preventing the activities of foreign agents.

According to the police chief, several of the arrested individuals face serious charges. Authorities claim that some suspects allegedly passed information related to military bases, security installations, and potential targets of attacks to foreign actors. Others are accused of recording and sending video footage and photographs of the aftermath of attacks to foreign media platforms.

Security Raids Across Multiple Provinces

Iranian media reports say security agencies conducted coordinated raids in several parts of the country. In the northwestern regions, some suspects were arrested for allegedly sharing the locations of military and security facilities with Israel. Similarly, in northeastern areas, several individuals were detained on accusations of gathering sensitive information related to key institutions and economic facilities.

In the western province of Lorestan, authorities also detained several people accused of maintaining contact with foreign intelligence agencies and attempting to create unrest inside the country. Officials say the arrests indicate the presence of an organized network that was collecting information from different regions and sending it abroad.

Allegations of Links With Foreign Media

Iranian police also claim that some of the detained individuals had connections with media organizations based abroad. In particular, the London-based television channel Iran International has been mentioned in the investigation. The Iranian government has repeatedly accused the channel of promoting instability within the country.

Authorities say some suspects were allegedly providing sensitive information to the channel or related networks. However, these allegations have not been independently verified.

Heightened Surveillance Amid War Tensions

The crackdown comes at a time when military tensions in the region are rising and Iran’s security apparatus has tightened internal monitoring. Iranian officials say foreign powers were attempting to obtain information about military bases and security arrangements through local agents and espionage networks, potentially aiding plans for future attacks.

The government stated that interrogations of the detainees are ongoing. If the allegations are proven, those involved could face severe punishment under Iran’s national security laws.

Human Rights Groups Express Concern

Meanwhile, several international human rights organizations have expressed concern over the large-scale arrests. They argue that during periods of war and political tension, mass detentions on espionage charges often raise questions about transparency and due process in the judicial system.

For now, Iranian authorities say the investigation is continuing, and more revelations related to the case may emerge in the coming days.
