Amid ongoing military clashes in West Asia, the central government has stepped up vigilance over the country’s internal security. On 28 February, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a circular to all states and union territories, instructing authorities to remain alert for potential violence and communal tensions.

According to official sources, the circular directs chief secretaries, police chiefs, and intelligence agencies to identify sensitive areas and maintain heightened surveillance. It specifically advises monitoring individuals or groups who might exploit international developments to deliver inflammatory speeches or incite unrest, thereby disrupting law and order.

The recent actions by the United States and Israel against Iranian military installations have escalated tensions in the region, with reports of protests in several countries. Security agencies note that such international developments can sometimes have repercussions within India as well.

The MHA has instructed states to increase police patrolling in sensitive areas, monitor religious sites and large public gatherings, and take swift action against misleading or provocative content circulating on social media. Local administrations have also been advised to maintain dialogue with community leaders to curb rumors before they escalate.

Officials emphasized that these measures are purely precautionary and are not aimed at targeting any particular community. States have been directed to ensure lawful and impartial enforcement.

Diplomatically, the government continues to monitor developments in West Asia closely. Experts say that in the current scenario, maintaining internal peace and social harmony remains a top priority for India.

Citizens have been urged to ignore rumors and report any suspicious activity promptly to local authorities.
