Amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has sharply reacted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Israel. The organisation’s president, Syed Sadatullah Husaini, on Friday expressed deep disappointment and concern, stating that the visit took place at a time when Gaza is facing a grave humanitarian tragedy.

In a statement issued to the media, Husaini noted that several international human rights organisations and United Nations officials have made serious observations regarding the situation in Gaza. In such circumstances, he said, there was an expectation of a clear and firm message from India. He added that the public engagements of the Prime Minister and the display of routine diplomatic warmth with the Israeli leadership have disappointed a significant section of the country.

The JIH president stated that India’s global identity has long been associated with justice, human rights, and support for the oppressed. Historically, he said, India has opposed apartheid, colonial occupation, and racial discrimination. Given this legacy, a balanced and explicit position on the current situation in Gaza was naturally expected.

He further remarked that the Palestinian issue is not merely a geopolitical question but also a matter of humanitarian and moral concern. India’s own freedom struggle, he said, was a moral battle against colonial oppression, and it is this legacy that has earned the country global respect.

Reiterating the organisation’s stand, Husaini said that Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has consistently raised its voice in support of the rights of the Palestinian people. He emphasised that the group’s position is rooted in the principles of universal justice and human dignity.

Concluding his statement, he said that India’s strength lies not only in its strategic or economic capabilities but also in its moral credibility, which must be upheld on every sensitive international issue.
