Buxar’s Brave Son, Martyr Sunil Kumar Singh, Posthumously Awarded Army Medal; Tears Flow from Wife’s Eyes

Buxar district’s Narbatpur village has lost a hero, but the nation has gained a symbol of courage. Sepoy Sunil Kumar Singh, who displayed extraordinary valor in defending India’s borders, has been posthumously awarded the Army Medal (Gallantry) by the Indian Army. The honor was conferred in recognition of his bravery and selfless sacrifice during Operation Sindur and counter-terrorism operations.

The award was presented during the 78th Army Day ceremony in Jaipur, Rajasthan, by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi. As Sepoy Sunil Kumar Singh’s name was announced and his heroic deeds recounted, the auditorium resounded with thunderous applause and cheers from the audience.

The medal was received by his wife, Sujata Devi, who was overwhelmed with a mix of pride and sorrow. Tears of valor streamed down her face, reflecting the deep emotions shared by everyone present.

According to official Army reports, Sepoy Sunil Kumar Singh had been posted with the 237 Field Workshop Company since 27 May 2024. On the night of 9 May 2025, during heavy shelling and drone attacks from across the Pakistan border, he displayed unmatched bravery.

Around 1:10 a.m., he spotted six Pakistani drones approaching his sentry post. Recognizing the imminent danger, he immediately alerted his comrades and engaged the drones with rifle fire in open terrain. During the engagement, a shrapnel struck him, leaving him critically injured.

Despite his injuries, he continued to provide precise enemy locations to his team until his last breath. Thanks to his vigilance and courage, the Indian Army successfully neutralized the drones, saving the lives of several soldiers. Sepoy Sunil Kumar Singh laid down his life while protecting his fellow soldiers.

He is survived by three brothers, including Chandan Kumar, who also serves in the Indian Army, while the middle brother Anil Kumar manages family affairs and farming. His father, Janardan Singh, instilled a sense of patriotism, while his mother, Pawdharo Devi, a retired teacher, laid the foundation of discipline and devotion to the nation.

The people of Buxar and the entire nation are paying heartfelt tribute to Sepoy Sunil Kumar Singh’s courage and ultimate sacrifice.
