Dayanidhi Maran’s Controversial Statement: ‘North Indian Girls Confined to Homes’; Case Filed in Muzaffarpur

A controversial statement made by Tamil Nadu DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran on January 15 has created a stir in Bihar. A complaint has been filed against the MP in a local Muzaffarpur court.

Advocate Sudhir Kumar Ojha told the court that Maran’s remarks were offensive and derogatory toward women from North India. He cited Maran’s statement claiming that North Indian women are confined to household and kitchen duties, whereas girls in Tamil Nadu are encouraged to pursue education and careers.

The complaint alleges that Maran’s statement has hurt the social image and dignity of North Indian women. Ojha added, “Hearing this statement caused me mental anguish; we feel insulted.”

The complaint also suggests that the statement by DMK leaders appears to be an attempt to gain political advantage ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

The petition seeks action against Maran under Sections 74, 75, 79, 192, 298, 352, and 251(2) of the Indian Penal Code, 2023. The court has accepted the complaint and scheduled the next hearing for January 22.

BJP leader Dilip Jaiswal commented, “Statements like these affect regional harmony and social unity. Action should be taken nationwide.” The issue has now become a focal point of political debate amid the election season.
