Siwan Encounter Controversy: Two Sisters Shot While Thwarting Theft, Family Alleges “Police Fired”

Tension escalated in Siwan district on Friday morning after two sisters were injured during a police encounter with alleged thieves near Khodipakar/Kodi Prakar village under Bhagwanpur Hat police station. Both young women sustained gunshot wounds to their legs and are currently receiving treatment at Siwan Sadar Hospital.

The injured have been identified as Neetu Kumari (approximately 16 years old) and Anju Kumari (approximately 18 years old), daughters of lawyer Pandit. The family alleges that the police firing caused their daughters’ injuries, while police claim the bullets hit them during return fire.

According to locals, some youths were attempting to remove goods by dismantling wheels of a seized truck parked on the roadside. When the police team from Dial‑112 arrived on the scene, gunfire erupted. The sisters were standing outside their home when they were hit. Villagers claim the police opened fire without issuing any warning.

Bhagwanpur Hat Station In-Charge Ashutosh Kumar Singh stated that the thieves had fired at the police first, prompting return fire. He added that empty cartridges recovered from the scene are being treated as evidence, but it is not yet clear whether the bullets that hit the sisters came from the police or the suspects. The true facts will emerge only after a detailed investigation.

Following the incident, locals expressed serious doubts and anger over the police action. They are demanding justice and a prompt investigation to clarify who was responsible for the gunfire. Police officials, meanwhile, assured that the case is under investigation and that action will be taken against the guilty parties.
