Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh: FIR Ordered Against ASP Anuj Chaudhary and 12 Police Officers in Muslim Youth Shooting Case

Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Vibhanshu Sudhir has issued a significant order directing the registration of an FIR against 13 police officers, including former Circle Officer (CO) and current Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anuj Chaudhary. The officers face allegations of shooting a Muslim youth during police firing.

The order was passed on 9 January 2026, following a petition filed by the victim’s father, who accused the police of misconduct.

According to the family, the victim, Alam (24), who earned his livelihood selling biscuits near the Shahi Jama Masjid area, was shot by the police on 24 November 2024. He was forced to receive treatment secretly due to fear of further police action. After the father testified in court, the CJM ordered the FIR to be registered.

Police have not clarified when the FIR will be officially filed. Authorities are reportedly preparing to challenge the court order in the High Court, claiming that a judicial inquiry into the incident has already been conducted.

The case pertains to clashes between police and a crowd outside Shahi Jama Masjid on 24 November 2024, during which several people were injured.

The victim’s family stated that the police firing left Alam seriously injured, compelling him to seek hidden medical treatment. The recent court order marks a new development in the case.

Following the FIR registration, legal proceedings against the police officers are expected to advance. The police are likely to seek judicial review in the High Court to challenge the CJM’s directive.
