Dr. Manzoor Alam, Institution Builder of the Indian Muslim Community, Passes Away; An Era of Ideas and Struggle Comes to an End

Senior thinker of the Indian Muslim community, renowned scholar and founder of several prestigious milli institutions, Dr. Manzoor Alam passed away today. As soon as the news of his demise spread, a wave of grief swept through religious, social and intellectual circles across the country. His passing is being seen as an irreparable loss for Indian Muslims, one that does not appear possible to be compensated in the near future.

Dr. Manzoor Alam was among those rare personalities who dedicated their entire life to the intellectual, educational and institutional development of the community. He not only articulated ideas but also translated them into practice by laying the foundations of strong and sustainable institutions.

He was the founder of nationally recognised institutions such as the Institute of Objective Studies (IOS), the Islamic Fiqh Academy India and the All India Milli Council. For decades, these institutions have played an influential role in the fields of education, research, Islamic jurisprudence, social justice and minority rights.

Through these platforms, Dr. Manzoor Alam worked to develop ideological awareness among Indian Muslims, initiate serious discourse on contemporary challenges, and provide an organised and constructive direction to the community. Under his leadership, these forums emerged not merely as organisations but as centres of an intellectual movement.

Dr. Manzoor Alam was counted among the few Muslim leaders endowed with vast resources and exceptional leadership abilities. He chose to utilise these resources not for personal comfort, but throughout his life for the progress of the community and the collective good. He was widely recognised as a tireless activist who remained constantly engaged in community-building and social upliftment.

Condolences have poured in from various religious organisations, social institutions, intellectuals and public figures, expressing deep sorrow over his demise. Prayers are being offered for the acceptance of his services, forgiveness of his shortcomings, and for patience and strength for his family, colleagues and followers.

Dr. Manzoor Alam’s passing undoubtedly marks the end of an era, but the institutions he established and his intellectual legacy will continue to guide future generations.
