State-Level Convention for Dalit and Poor Workers in Patna on February 2, Focus on MNREGA and Bulldozer Drives

Top leaders of the All India Khet & Gramin Mazdoor Sabha (KHEGRAMS) and the MNREGA Mazdoor Sabha held a key meeting in Patna to review ongoing movements against the bulldozer drives in Dalit and poor settlements across the state, as well as the erosion of MNREGA schemes.

The leaders decided that a state-level convention for Dalits, the poor, workers, and women will be held in Patna on February 2, 2026, during which these issues will be raised prominently ahead of the Chief Minister’s upcoming visit. The organization has also sent a letter to the Chief Minister demanding a comprehensive survey of all unauthorized settlements and steps to eliminate housing deprivation among Dalits and other marginalized communities.

Addressing the gathering, leaders said that the process to dismantle MNREGA had been ongoing for some time and is now nearly complete. They criticized the “Gramji Act,” arguing that it undermines constitutional employment guarantees, which will further burden the already fragile state economy.

The meeting also strongly condemned the rollback of the Chief Minister’s Women Employment Scheme. Additionally, the organization decided to observe Raidas Smriti Week.

The meeting was attended by KHEGRAMS National President and former MLA Satyadev Ram, National General Secretary Dhirendra Jha, National Vice President Mahboob Alam, National Secretary and former MLA Gopal Ravidas, Madan Chandravanshi, Upendra Paswan, Satyanarayan Prasad, Subhash Patel, Mukhiya Pradeep Kumar, Jitendra Kumar, Pradeep Kushwaha, Chandradev Verma, among other leaders. The meeting was presided over by State Secretary Shatrughan Sahni.
