Irreparable Loss to the Community: Ameer-e-Shariat of Karnataka, Maulana Saghir Ahmad Rashadi, Passes Away at 80;Ameer-e-Shariat of Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand Says, “A Radiant Sun of Knowledge and Practice Has Set.”

Maulana Saghir Ahmad Rashadi, Ameer-e-Shariat of Karnataka and Mohtamim and Shaikh-ul-Hadith of Darul Uloom Sabeelur Rashad, Bengaluru, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026. He had been unwell for the past few months and breathed his last at the age of around 80. The news of his demise has triggered a wave of grief across academic, religious and community circles throughout the country.

Maulana Saghir Ahmad Rashadi passed away on 22nd Rajab-ul-Murajjab 1447 Hijri, corresponding to Monday. He was widely known for his simplicity, piety, deep scholarship and lifelong commitment to serving the community with humility and quiet dedication. Those close to him recall him as a man of few words, yet a personality whose influence was profound and lasting.

Following the demise of Maulana Mufti Muhammad Ashraf Ali Baqvi (RA), Maulana Rashadi was elected Ameer-e-Shariat of Karnataka. He also served as the Mohtamim and Shaikh-ul-Hadith of Darul Uloom Sabeelur Rashad, Bengaluru. During his tenure, he led the institution to significant academic and infrastructural growth. Senior scholars have noted that he nurtured the institution with tireless effort and personal sacrifice, laying a strong and enduring foundation.

In a press statement issued from Patna, the Imarat-e-Shariah (Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand) expressed deep sorrow over his demise. Ameer-e-Shariat of Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand, Maulana Syed Ahmad Wali Faisal Rahmani, in his condolence message, said that with the passing of Maulana Saghir Ahmad Rashadi, a “radiant sun of knowledge and practice has set,” one that illuminated the world of learning and spirituality for decades.

Nazim of Imarat-e-Shariah, Maulana Mufti Muhammad Saeedur Rahman Qasmi, described Maulana Rashadi as a man of great balance and integrity, whose simplicity, religious commitment and deep association with Imarat-e-Shariah would always be remembered. He said the entire community is in mourning over this irreparable loss.

Qazi Shariat, Qazi Muhammad Anzar Alam Qasmi, recalled that Maulana Rashadi regularly consulted Imarat-e-Shariah on key religious and social matters, including issues related to moon sighting, and would attend its programs along with his team whenever invited. Deputy Nazims and other scholars remembered him as a selfless elder who worked quietly, without seeking recognition, and who had deep affection for students of knowledge.

On January 12, 2026, a condolence meeting was held at Imarat-e-Shariah, Phulwari Sharif, Patna, where scholars, qazis, muftis and staff members gathered to offer prayers for the forgiveness and elevation of the late Maulana’s ranks.

The demise of Maulana Saghir Ahmad Rashadi is being widely regarded as a major intellectual and community loss, not only for Karnataka but for the entire country. His life of simplicity, service and silent dedication will continue to serve as an enduring example for future generations.
