Cold Wave Grips Patna: All Schools Up to Class 5 Closed Till January 13, Timings Restricted for Classes Above Class 5

In view of the intensifying severe cold and cold wave conditions in the state capital Patna, the district administration has once again decided to keep schools closed. Considering the adverse impact on children’s health, Patna District Magistrate Dr. Tyagarajan M.S. has issued an order directing the closure of all government and private schools up to Class 5 till January 13, 2026.

According to the order issued by the district administration, extremely low temperatures and cold wave conditions during the morning hours pose a serious risk of illness to young children. Keeping this in mind, the directives have been enforced with immediate effect under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.

The order clearly states that the restrictions will not be limited to government and private schools alone but will also apply to anganwadi centres and pre-schools. All academic activities up to Class 5 will remain completely suspended. The administration has warned of strict action against school managements found violating the order.

Meanwhile, partial relaxation has been granted to classes from Class 6 onwards. As per the District Magistrate’s instructions, classes for these grades may be conducted only between 10:30 am and 3:00 pm. All academic activities before 10:30 am and after 3:00 pm are strictly prohibited to ensure that students are not compelled to step out in extreme cold.

The administration has further clarified that the order will come into effect from Friday, January 11, and will remain valid till January 13, 2026. Weather conditions are being closely monitored, and the order may be modified as required depending on the situation.

Notably, severe cold and cold wave conditions have been prevailing across Patna and other parts of Bihar for several days. Temperatures have dropped significantly during early mornings and late nights, increasing health risks, particularly for young children and the elderly. In view of this, the district administration has taken this precautionary measure.
