Negligence of Quack Doctor Watching YouTube Leads to Woman’s Death During Childbirth in Khagaria

A 23-year-old woman, Swati Devi, from Thakurganti Modhia in Jharkhand, died due to the gross negligence of a quack doctor who attempted a delivery by watching YouTube videos. The incident occurred Thursday night at an illegal clinic in Shrimath, Raslapar block of Khagaria district, where the doctor and his assistant were repeatedly watching videos to learn the surgical procedure.

According to reports, Swati Devi was staying at her maternal home under the care of her mother, Sushma Devi, during her pregnancy. When she went into labor, her family took her to the clinic. With the family’s consent, the doctor and his assistant started the operation by following YouTube videos. During the procedure, repeated pauses and video checks caused severe blood loss, resulting in her death.

The deceased’s husband, Vikram Sah, said, “The doctor performed the operation haphazardly. My wife was only 23 years old. She was being treated right here.”

Local resident Rajesh Kumar said, “This doctor has treated patients by watching YouTube videos before. This time too, it led to a woman’s death. Strict action must be taken against the responsible doctor.”

The newborn baby was delivered safely, but Swati Devi could not be saved. The doctor and his assistant advised the family to take her to another doctor and then fled after closing the clinic.

The clinic details were provided by the deceased’s grandmother, Sanju Devi, who said, “Before starting the procedure, the doctor demanded ₹30,000. After consent, the operation began. Two hours later, he said to take her to another doctor—but by then my granddaughter had already died.”

Bhagalpur Civil Surgeon Dr. Ashok Kumar said, “People rely on illegal clinics citing lack of money, even though government hospitals at the block level provide better facilities. People should avoid quack doctors and illegal clinics. The block medical officer will take action against the guilty.”

Block in-charge Medical Officer Pawan Kumar said the matter is under investigation and further action will follow.

This incident exposes serious negligence in the healthcare system and illegal medical practices in Raslapar block of Khagaria district, Bihar.
