India Takes Strict Action on Elon Musk’s Grok AI, X Issued Notice Following Priyanka Chaturvedi’s Complaint

The case of Elon Musk’s xAI artificial intelligence chatbot ‘Grok’ being used to generate objectionable and obscene images of women and minors has taken a serious turn, prompting a strong response from the Indian government.

Immediately after a complaint was raised by Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued a notice to the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter). The ministry directed X to submit a report on the action taken within three days.

According to reports, a new feature was added to Grok AI at the end of December 2025, allowing users to edit images. However, this feature was soon misused. Several users complained that the tool was being used to depict women and children in ‘nude’ or obscene ways.

Reuters reported that over 20 cases were identified on the platform where the AI tool was used to create fake nude images of women. Investigations have begun in multiple countries, including France, and the acts are being treated as gender-based and sexist violence.

Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote on the X platform “I immediately drew the IT Minister’s attention and requested intervention. AI features like Grok must have safety measures in place to prevent violations of women’s dignity. Large tech companies must take responsibility for this.”

She further added that without reforming male attitudes in society, such ‘sick and perverted’ behaviors will continue to rise.

Following her complaint, the IT Ministry sent a notice to X’s India unit, making it clear that the platform had failed to prevent the misuse of Grok. The ministry ordered that a report on corrective action be submitted within three days.

After the notice, Priyanka Chaturvedi expressed her gratitude on Twitter, calling the step crucial for protecting women’s safety and dignity.

Under international pressure, Grok acknowledged security flaws in its system and promised corrective measures. However, in response to media questions, the company made controversial and inconsistent statements, even dismissing the issue as a mere “pixel game.”

This case highlights the growing conflict between unchecked AI development and women’s safety. The Indian government’s action sends a clear message that technological progress will not come at the cost of women’s dignity and protection.
