Fake AI-Generated Voices of President and Prime Minister: Youth Arrested in Muzaffarpur; Accused Was Linked to Jan Suraaj Social Media Team, Says TOI

A highly serious case involving the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology has come to light. The Bihar cyber police have arrested a युवक (youth) for allegedly creating and circulating a fake video on social media by mimicking the voices and images of President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to the police, the act goes beyond a cybercrime and amounts to a direct attempt to undermine the dignity of the country’s highest constitutional offices and erode public trust in democratic institutions.

Police sources said that on January 2, during routine social media monitoring, a suspicious video surfaced in which the voices and faces of the President and the Prime Minister were imitated. Preliminary investigation established that the video had been created using AI-based tools. Given the sensitive nature of the case, a special team was constituted under the leadership of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Cyber) on the directions of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

Based on the analysis of technical evidence, digital trails, and social media activity, the accused was identified and arrested. The arrested person has been identified as Pramod Kumar Raj, a resident of Bhagwanpur under the Bochaha police station area. Police have also seized the mobile phone allegedly used to create and disseminate the fake video.

According to a report by The Times of India, the accused, Pramod Kumar Raj, had earlier been associated with the social media team of the Jan Suraaj Party led by Prashant Kishor and had handled the party’s digital publicity during the previous Bihar Assembly elections. However, the police have not yet officially confirmed this aspect, and the investigation is ongoing.

The case has been registered at the cyber police station under Case No. 1/26. During interrogation, the accused reportedly admitted to editing the video using AI-based tools. Police officials stated that such fake digital content is intended to mislead the public, damage the credibility of constitutional institutions, and disrupt social harmony.

Investigating agencies are also verifying the criminal antecedents of the accused. Police stations in other areas are being contacted to ascertain whether any previous cases have been registered against him. If required, the accused will be taken on remand for further in-depth interrogation.

Rural SP Rajesh Singh Prabhakar said, “During social media monitoring, an AI-generated fake video came to light. Considering the seriousness of the matter, a case was registered at the cyber police station, and after technical investigation, the accused was arrested along with the mobile phone.”

The cyber police have appealed to the public not to share any viral video or digital content without verifying its authenticity and to immediately report fake or misleading material to the police or the cyber helpline.
