Bihar Becomes a New Hotspot for Film and Web Series Shootings; 37 Projects Granted Permission

Following the implementation of Bihar Government’s Film Promotion Policy‑2024, the state is fast becoming a preferred destination for filmmakers and web series producers. So far, the government has granted permission for the shooting of 37 projects, including feature films, documentaries, and short films.

Under the policy, producers are offered a single-window clearance system, simplifying and speeding up the approval process. The policy also prioritizes the hiring of local artists and technicians, providing a boost to regional talent.

Filmmakers are now choosing districts such as Patna, Gaya, Rajgir, Nalanda, Vaishali, Munger, Buxar, and Madhubani for their shoots. Bihar’s rich historical heritage, the ghats of the Ganga, rural landscapes, and cultural diversity make it an attractive location for productions.

The shooting of films and web series is expected to generate employment opportunities for local actors, junior artists, and technical staff. Additionally, businesses related to hotels, transport, and catering are likely to benefit from increased activity.

Film critic Vinod Anupam noted, “There is a growing demand on OTT platforms for web series set against rural backdrops and local environments. Bihar’s improving connectivity and infrastructure are making it a first-choice destination for directors and producers.”

With airports now operational in Darbhanga and Purnia, shooting outside major cities has become easier. Experts believe that more projects will be filmed in Bihar in the coming years, which will further enhance the state’s image and boost tourism.

Overall, the approval of 37 film and web series projects signals that Bihar is steadily establishing its presence on the national stage in the film and digital content industry.
