Grand Inauguration of 20th International Tripitaka Chanting Puja in Bodh Gaya, 20,000 Buddhist Devotees from 27 Countries Participate

The 20th International Tripitaka Chanting Puja is set to begin in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, from December 2. Ahead of the official inauguration, a grand procession was organized by various monasteries in Bodh Gaya, where devotees carried the idol of Lord Buddha to the Kalachakra Maidan.

Around 20,000 Buddhist monks, nuns, and devotees from 27 countries participated in the procession. Dressed in vibrant attire and carrying flowers, the devotees chanted Lord Buddha’s teachings, “Buddham Sharanam Gacchami”, while walking. Prayers for world peace and the welfare of all living beings were offered during the procession.

This year, India is hosting the International Tripitaka Chanting Ceremony for the first time. The inauguration was held under the Bodhi Tree at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated the Puja, while Union Minister of Art and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat attended as the chief guest.

According to Bhikkhu Aryapal, founder of Sleeping Buddha, the event will continue from December 2 to December 12. During this period, Buddhist monks and nuns from various countries will participate in the Puja. Bhikkhu Aryapal stated, “This year, over 20,000 Buddhist devotees from 27 countries are taking part in the Tripitaka Puja. Prayers will be offered for world peace and the welfare of all beings. Tripitaka Puja is one of the most significant rituals in Buddhism, and it is being held at Bodh Gaya, the land of enlightenment of Lord Buddha.”
