Bihar Legislative Council member Qari Mohammad Sohaib has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting an extension of the deadline for the registration of Waqf properties on the ‘UMEED Portal’. Currently, the final date for the process is set as 5 December 2025.
In his letter, Qari Sohaib emphasized that Waqf properties are a shared heritage of India and symbolize social justice and religious freedom. Under the Constitution, minorities have the full right to protect their religious, cultural, and institutional rights.
He highlighted that registering Waqf properties is a vast and technical process, and it is practically impossible to complete the registration of millions of properties spread across Bihar and the rest of the country within such a short timeframe. If the deadline is not extended, many properties may remain unregistered, which could lead to disputes, encroachments, and legal complications.
Therefore, he respectfully requested the Prime Minister to extend the registration deadline by one year to ensure the process is conducted in an organized, transparent, and comprehensive manner. Qari Sohaib stated that this extension would help safeguard the constitutional protection and social utility of Waqf properties.
The initiative has received a positive response from religious and social organizations.
