Next Cricket Star to Emerge from Bihar’s Rural Areas! Preparations Underway for Rural Cricket League

The Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) has launched the Rural Cricket League (BRL) to provide rural cricket talents a platform to shine on a larger stage. Considered the largest rural cricket initiative in the country so far, the league will give 12,800 players from rural areas of 38 districts a chance to compete in the T‑20 format.

A total of 645 matches will be played among 640 teams, spread across three phases:

Phase 1: 600 matches

Phase 2: 35 matches

Phase 3 (Final): 10 matches

Over 15,000 players registered for the league. Trials will begin on 7th December in West Champaran (East Champaran – West Zone), followed by sequential trials in other districts! Rural youth—whether from farmer, shopkeeper, or fisher families—now have the opportunity to showcase their talent. With support from coaches and local clubs, financial constraints or lack of resources will no longer be a barrier! As the league kicks off, the players’ enthusiasm is expected to match the energy traditionally seen only in urban cricket tournaments.

BCA President stated that this league is a mission for young talents in Bihar who have not yet had opportunities in mainstream cricket. Rural players now have a chance to gain recognition at state and national levels. The initiative is also socially significant as it helps reduce the urban-rural imbalance in sports opportunities.

Young players like Ravikant, Akash, Raj Kamal, and Sonu have already registered. Selectors will travel from village to village to assess talent. Players who demonstrate exceptional skill could advance to state or national teams.

Roopak Kumar, Media In-Charge of BRL, said “Trials will start on 7th December. Players who could not register online can register on the spot. Matches will begin on 7th January. Our aim is to bring forward players from Bihar’s rural areas who can make a name for themselves in the world of cricket through their talent.”
