“Silent Warrior of Socialism and Ideology: Muzaffarpur’s Sachchidanand Sinha Passes Away at 97”

Bihar and the nation’s socialist-intellectual community mourned the loss of a stalwart on Wednesday. Renowned socialist thinker and writer Sachidanand Sinha passed away at his residence in Muzaffarpur. He was 97 years old.

Originally from Manika village in Mushahari block, Sinha dedicated his life to the socialist movement, literature, and intellectual discourse with simplicity and integrity.

He was celebrated for his clear, logical, and serious writings on complex subjects including politics, sociology, economics, history, philosophy, art, and culture. Sinha authored nearly two dozen books, with his major works compiled by Rajkamal Prakashan in eight volumes under the title Sachidanand Sinha Rachanavali.

A scholar of German and French, he also translated the works of French philosopher Albert Camus into Hindi.

His writings emphasized a non-dogmatic socialism, decentralized democracy, environmental sustainability, non-consumerist lifestyles, and the primacy of labor.

Yogendra Yadav, head of Swaraj India, said: “Sachida ji is no more. An era of the Indian socialist intellectual tradition has ended. Countless young people, including myself, have received ideological training through his writings and thoughts. His life and works will continue to inspire generations to come.”

Sinha was a lifelong political activist, contributing to the socialist movement through his associations with the Socialist Party, Samata Organization, and Socialist Janaprasad.

Deepankar Bhattacharya, General Secretary of the CPIML, remarked “Sachidanand Sinha was a proud symbol of the Indian socialist tradition. His ideas and life will remain a guiding light for future generations.”

Living in a modest home in a small village in Bihar, Sinha owned only basic furnishings—a cot, a table, and a stove. His socialism was not rooted in dogma but was practical, solution-oriented, and holistic in vision.

Sachidanand Sinha’s passing is not merely a personal loss; it is an irreplaceable loss for the intellectual and literary world. His writings, thoughts, and philosophy will continue to inspire generations ahead.
