44 Workers from Jammu and Kashmir Stopped in Assam, Released After Identity Verification

On Monday, local residents at New Tinsukia Railway Station of Assam, stopped 44 workers from Jammu and Kashmir, labeling them as “suspicious.” The workers were en route to Arunachal Pradesh to work on a power grid project.

Locals demanded that police and railway authorities verify the workers’ identities and documents. Some claimed that in the wake of the recent blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, these individuals appeared “suspicious.” Footage showed the workers sitting on the road outside the station.

Tinsukia SSP Mayank Kumar said the police intervened immediately and checked all documents and identifications. “Everything was found to be legitimate, and the workers were allowed to continue their journey.”

The SSP clarified that the workers are skilled laborers and had been hired by contractors for the Arunachal Pradesh electricity grid/transmission project.

Following the recent Delhi blast, security measures in Assam have been heightened. The government has also intensified action against individuals sharing content online. So far, 21 people have been arrested as part of this campaign.
