In Tekwara village of Katra block, Muzaffarpur, leftist organizations including CPI-ML (Maoist) and KHEGRAS staged a strong protest today against administrative orders to evict landless poor families who have been living in the area for the past 40–50 years. The one-day sit-in was held in front of the District Magistrate’s office under the leadership of Aftab Alam, national president of RYA and former CPI-ML candidate.
Manoj Kumar Yadav, CPI-ML secretary for Ara-Katra block, described the eviction order as “dictatorial” and accused the administration and the BJP MLA of conspiring to make the poor homeless.
Addressing the protestors, Aftab Alam said that dozens of poor families in Tekwara have been residing on government land for generations. He alleged that three years ago, a model police station was constructed on their land, and now they are being targeted for eviction under the pretext of a power house. Alam claimed that the entire plan is being executed in collusion with the local BJP MLA and the administration.
Shatrughan Sahni, state secretary of KHEGRAS, stated that cutting off electricity has plunged the lives of these families into darkness, citing a recent incident where a child was bitten by a snake. He called this proof of the administration’s inhuman and anti-poor mindset.
CPI-ML district committee member Parshuram Pathak warned that if the administration proceeds with the bulldozer operation, the people of Bihar will respond collectively.
Victims present at the sit-in accused the BJP MLA and the Nitish-Modi government of imposing a “bulldozer raj,” emphasizing that the fight is not limited to Tekwara but represents the struggle of Dalits, Mahadalits, marginalized, and working-class people across Bihar.
The protesting leaders submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate, making it clear that any attempt to evict the families will face political and public resistance.
The sit-in was addressed by CPI-ML Ara-Katra block secretary Manoj Kumar Yadav, Aftab Alam, KHEGRAS state secretary Shatrughan Sahni, Amresh Rai, Batohee Rai, Vishwanath Rai, Juli Devi, Devo Devi, and CPI-ML district committee member Parshuram Pathak, among others.
