Muslims Portrayed as Illegal Immigrants, Assam Congress Files Police Complaint Against BJP’s AI Video

Insaaf Times Desk

On Thursday, the Assam Congress filed a police complaint against the state BJP over an AI-generated video. The video reportedly portrayed the Muslim community as illegal immigrants occupying government land while targeting Congress leaders.

Beda Brat Bora, head of Congress’s media department, lodged the complaint at Dispur Police Station, alleging criminal conspiracy, incitement of communal violence, fostering enmity between religious groups, and violation of the election code of conduct by the BJP’s social media cell. The complaint names Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia, social media cell co-coordinator Shekharjyoti Baishya, and other unidentified individuals.

The Congress claimed that the video depicted Assam as a Muslim-majority state, showing lawful meat sales in public places, sites renamed with Islamic symbols, a 90 percent Muslim population claim, enhanced Muslim rights, and Sharia-like laws. The video also allegedly shows Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi and Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi giving speeches in front of a Pakistani flag. It ends with the message, “Choose your vote carefully,” which the BJP reportedly designed to influence voters ahead of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections.

Bora demanded a forensic examination of the video to verify its authenticity, seizure of devices linked to the BJP social media cell, immediate removal of the video under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and a report to the Assam State Election Commission regarding election code violations.

Meanwhile, Assam BJP has continued posting videos about the threat posed by illegal immigrants to the state on its ‘X’ handle since Monday. Responding to the controversy, Gogoi rejected the BJP IT cell’s attempts, stating, “The words, actions, and images of the BJP IT cell do not even scratch the surface of Assamese society.” He emphasized that Assam has been nurtured by icons like Shrimanta Sankardev, Ajan Pir, Swargadev Sukapha, Lachit Borphukan, and Bhupen Hazarika, and that smugglers of cattle, coal, betel nut, and drugs “will not define the Assamese mindset.”

Gogoi added that his party envisions “a society of pilots, engineers, doctors, entrepreneurs, bankers, and traders.” “We want to see a great Assam where hard work prevails over hatred, decency over arrogance, democracy over dictatorship, and everyone receives respect,” he said.

The case is being viewed as a serious threat to Assam’s delicate communal harmony. The police have confirmed receipt of the complaint and stated that an investigation will be conducted before further action.

The incident has raised critical questions not only about Assam’s politics but also about the use and potential misuse of AI technology in election campaigning across India.
