Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (September 15) unveiled a major development package for Bihar’s Seemanchal region. During his visit, PM Modi inaugurated the Purnea Airport, announced the establishment of the National Makhana Board, and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth nearly ₹36,000 crore. These include new railway lines, flight services, a thermal power project, water supply and sewage treatment projects.

Addressing a public gathering, the Prime Minister launched a sharp attack on the opposition, saying: “Congress and RJD tried to defame Bihar and looted government schemes. Such people can never work for the welfare of the poor. Our government places the service of the poor and backward classes above everything else.”

PM Modi highlighted that over 4 crore families have already been provided with permanent houses under government schemes, and an additional 3 crore families will be covered in the next phase. He stressed that the development of the Seemanchal region is vital for the overall progress of Bihar.

RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav mocked the Prime Minister’s visit, calling it a “Jumla Diwas”. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, however, praised the pace of progress, saying that before 2005, Bihar had little to show in terms of development, but now multiple projects in roads, flood control, and employment were underway.

Locals hailed the airport and the Makhana Board as a significant boost to the region’s economy. Union Minister Chirag Paswan said PM Modi’s visit would give “new momentum to Bihar’s development and prosperity.”

The Purnea visit underlined the NDA government’s commitment to transforming Seemanchal into an economic hub of eastern India, with integrated growth in roads, railways, aviation, water, and energy infrastructure.
